This Simplicity 2038 Vintage Sewing pattern is from 1943. The pattern is for a pinafore style dress and a pinafore.  The dress can have gathered sleeves or be made sleeveless. There are ruffles on the bodice, patch pockets and the neck edges and skirt front can be trimmed to create an apron effect. The side front and back of the bodice and the sleeves are omitted in one style so that it becomes a pinafore that can be worn over other dresses.
